Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
BackThe Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a six-year document that states which transportation projects plan to be constructed. It includes all types of transportation projects (e.g. highway maintenance or expansion, bicycle and pedestrian trail work, Metro Transit projects, and aviation projects) that are funded federally through the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). This document is updated annually.
The TIP includes basic project information such as the anticipated cost estimates, proposed funding sources, and schedule for each phase of federally funded projects. Non-federal projects are shown with less-detailed listings that provide basic project information.
On October 1st the approved TIP for the new Federal Fiscal Year takes effect. The previous year’s TIP is archived and no longer used as the official program.
