The Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) seeks public comments on its Draft 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The public comment period runs Aug. 28, 2025, to Sept. 24, 2025.

Updated every five years, the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, known previously as the Long Range Transportation Plan, projects the transportation needs for the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area for the next 25 years.

It includes a list of projects to meet those future transportation needs for Douglas and Sarpy Counties and the cities of Council Bluffs, Carter Lake, Crescent, and McClelland in Pottawattamie County.

The 2050 MTP takes a comprehensive approach toward addressing transportation in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area and incorporates elements from studies MAPA has completed during the past five to 10 years. The goal of the plan’s projections and proposed solutions are to increase the quality of life for area residents.

There will be a public meeting for the Draft Metropolitan Transportation Plan from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 18, 2025, at MAPA offices, 2222 Cuming St., Omaha, NE 68102.  Guests are encouraged to arrive at any time during the scheduled meeting period.
