On July 26, 2018, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will be visiting the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) to discuss the metropolitan area transportation planning process and the effectiveness of that process. MAPA is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Omaha-Council Bluffs region.
The federal certification review occurs every three years. The review evaluates the effectiveness of the MPO’s transportation planning process and verifies that the MPO is complying with federal regulations.
Major elements to be discussed include organization and management of the continuous, cooperative and comprehensive planning process, public involvement and project selection. Products of the planning process include the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) and the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).
Representatives from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will present during the MAPA Board of Directors meeting scheduled to start following the MAPA Foundation meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at MAPA offices. Public comments will be taken during this time. MAPA encourages members of the public to attend and share with the FHWA and the FTA representatives any thoughts they might have regarding MAPA’s transportation planning process. In addition, an online survey is available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SGSG9WH.
Anyone unable to attend the meeting who would like to comment should submit written comments via mail or email. Please submit all comments prior to the July 26 public meeting.
