The Council will receive an update on MAPA business and hear a presentation from Paul Taylor , Regional Administrator for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Region 7. This is especially relevant right now with a second round of flooding inundating the region. FEMA will also update us on recovery efforts and share best practices for cities and communities dealing with natural disasters.

Taylor was appointed in November 2017. He is based in Kansas City and oversees a staff of 250 in a four-state region that includes, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. Taylor is responsible for federal disaster response and recovery in the region and working with state, local, tribal, non-profit/volunteer and private sector leaders to execute preparedness and mitigation programs.

Taylor and FEMA have been especially busy this spring with the historic flooding that impacted, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas, as well as the devastating May tornadoes that impacted several major cities in Missouri and Kansas.
